In Africa, the early proponents of CA started in Zimbabwe in the mid 1970,s. The principles then spread into Zambia where they became established through the efforts of the Zambian Conservation Farming Unit (Z-CFU).

CA is practiced on over 95 million hectares around the world with the major proportion being in South and North America, with a smaller percentage in Australia.
