Participatory Approaches for Integrated Development (PAFID), a Kenyan non-profit NGO, was established to focus on the integration of practical and sustainable agro economic methodologies that build on existing community structures and provide a platform for self-driven inequality adjustment measures.
PAFID’s directors have extensive experience within the agricultural and socio-economic spheres in East Africa. Their wealth of experience in the operational aspects of large NGOs and an extensive knowledge of the relationship between NGO’s and official government operations, bring important synergies to the practical implementation of this project.
Utilising PAFID's extensive knowledge and resource base, the Zambian Conservation Farming Unit (Z-CFU) program established a Conservation Agriculture (CA) pilot program in Kenya's Rift Valley Province. Currently, there are 200 households participating in the pilot project and it is anticipated that this figure will climb to at least 10,000 for the next season (2010 – 2011). The ultimate aim of the CA program in Kenya is to influence the lives of 200,000 households over a five year period, through the effective implementation of CA tillage techniques.
