Was established in 1995 to develop and promote technical assistance for adaption of Conservation Agriculture in Zambia. It has since become the leading CA proponent in sub Saharan Africa. In Zambia alone there are up to 300,000 small holders, previously slash and burn subsistence farmers, who now no longer have to move to new land every year. In addition to Zambia, the Z-CFU has promoted CA techniques through third party implementing partners in Mali, Uganda, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Z-CFU’s reputation has not only enabled it to support small holder agriculture through donor funding, but also offer its services to private sector commercial partners, i.e. Dunavant Cotton. Recently, the Z-CFU has been in consultation with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia and COMESA to be the lead agency in the implementation of a CA program covering five COMESA countries.
